We often hear that chocolate is a very sweet food, high in sugar and fat. But there are some things we do not know exactly about the health benefits of chocolate. Here are what nutrition experts say about chocolate.
Dr. Samantha Heller, a senior medical nutritionist at NYU Langone Health in New York City, said: “It makes sense to say that chocolate helps keep you healthy, and some studies have shown that chocolate helps with cardiovascular health as well as other health benefits.”
“Darker and bitter chocolate is healthier,” adds Dr. Heller. Harvard recommends dark chocolate, which is made from at least 70% cocoa. Raw or natural cocoa is made from dried fermented cocoa beans that does not contain sugar, fat or dairy products. This type of chocolate or cocoa powder has a bitter taste that helps provide health benefits.
So do not hesitate to consume dark and bitter chocolate for more health benefits.
